RAISE AWARENESS: Since 9/11, Americans have lost more than 360,000 Veterans to suicide. That number shows that the deaths per day are 44, not 22, as most Americans believe. To put that into perspective, we have lost 50 Veterans to suicide for each fatality on the battlefield. The real tragedy is that Veteran suicide is preventable. By raising awareness and providing free life-saving resources, Check A Vet is preventing Veteran suicide every day. Join us as we travel across America, targeting areas where Veteran suicide is the highest. The events for 2026 are listed in the see more tab. Because you will be in front of the community at public events, engaging Veterans, family members, and friends of Veterans, I ask that you go to our online store and purchase a branded polo. This will show our visitors that you are a part of the team. You will also be provided a name tape with your first name and your branch of service or your status as a service member or civilian. If you would like to commit to volunteering at one of these activities, please reply to the email and sign up for the event that you are interested in supporting.

SAFE HOUSE: We love to ask, “Who is helping the helpers”? The answer is no one. One of the most important things people in a Veteran’s base of support need is EDUCATION. Join SAFE HOUSE, a Facebook peer-to-peer support group for Americans with Veterans struggling with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, Military Sexual Trauma, Moral Injuries, and problems with Transition out of the service. Share your personal experiences and strategies that help you to help the Veteran in your life. In turn, this will help others deal with the same issues. SH is loosely modeled after Al-Anon, where members are people, just like you, who are worried about someone with an addiction problem. SH is the same idea for Americans worried about a Veteran in their life struggling with suicide risk factors and warning signs. By sharing what triggers your Veteran and how you deal with these triggers to calm them down. Click here to join the private Facebook group and start sharing. With your input, Check A Vet will build a searchable Public Forum to help keep their Veterans safe from suicide risk factors. Consider the uphill battle a young husband, wife, friend, or family member faces as they deal with Veterans separating from service. Help these people to protect their Veterans from struggling with service-related problems. We need Americans who have been dealing with these struggles for years to share their strategies and coping skills. By sharing your experiences, you can help Americans to assist the Veterans in their lives. Additionally, when people have questions about your comments, they can send you a direct message for support. NC.
TEAM ROOM: Help the Veterans in your community connect with other Veterans nearby. Veterans’ experiences during their service came with the camaraderie of their friends, leaders, and subordinates. Help us restore this camaraderie and replace isolation, which can lead to suicide, with companionship and fellowship. Help Veterans get back on this TRIBE by volunteering to sponsor or assist in TR activities. TR is loosely modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous, but without the 12 steps. TR is about bringing Veterans to their tribe. Intended to be a small, 10-12 Veterans per team, to keep the group tight. TR is not just for Veterans struggling with suicide. It is for ALL Veterans, even those with less than and dishonorable discharges. This is a model that I learned from church. Everyone is welcome, come as you are. Each meeting will have an element of suicide prevention programmed into the meeting. The meetings are designed to get Veterans sharing their stories of struggle, camaraderie, and helping others. Suicide risk factors, protective factors, warning signs, and actions to be taken for a Veteran in distress are just a few of the topics in each of our meetings. Because we believe that the Veterans' PILLARS OF HEALTH are critical in the holistic approach to healing, our meeting will also incorporate nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and behavioral health. We will also invite guest speakers who are experts in the elements of holistic healing.
